What If... 1872?
Bryan Andrews and I co-directed this episode, which is a love-letter to the western genre. For each episode in the series, we did our best to connect to the cinematic language of each of the genres we visited. Here, there is a lot of Sergio Leone.
As with all my episodes, I did as much boarding as time would permit.
This scene at the burned-down village had many versions, as we kept streamlining the plot. I was fun to approach the western genre through a “spooky” lens. Like Sergio Leone meets The Wild Wild West.
This episode is full of fun cinematic compositions—like this shot of half-hypnotized Kate Bishop laying on the ground, mustering the strength to fire a shot.
